The Internet Lies – Part 1

I have just concluded a project I call, “Internet Honesty.” This is part 1: Mornings.

No matter how hard I try to be completely honest on the internet, I can’t quite do it. Each individual status update or Instagram picture is true, but looking at things as a whole doesn’t really paint an honest picture. It either seems as if I am perfect and everything is under control, or everything is a disaster and I’m on the brink of a psychotic break. But most of the time, everything is just average, maybe verging on crazy. 🙂

The point of this project was to give a better overall picture.

And what better way to do that than with a lot of pictures!

I took a photo of myself and my kids when we left the house each day for about a week (well, almost everyday. We were running really late on the days I missed). I chose a very average week with not too many things on the schedule that were out of the ordinary. Most days we were headed to the gym. The results were interesting. Here they are:

Cupcake-for-breakfast face. Make-up from yesterday. We ran out of time to tame the curls. And no shoes for the little ones.
Friday – Cupcake-for-breakfast face. Make-up from yesterday. We ran out of time to tame the curls. And no shoes for the little ones.
Three of us don't have shoes on yet, and one is already crying and it's only 7:30 in the morning.
Monday – Three of us don’t have shoes on yet, and one is already crying and it’s only 7:30 in the morning.
Atleast 3 or us are dressed, and we all look happy. This no shoes thing is a habit, apparently.
Tuesday – Atleast 3 of us are dressed, and we all look happy. This no shoes thing is a habit, apparently.
No make-up, but we all have shoes on! Miracle! And we are all dressed, but we didn't have to be anywhere until 6 PM.
Wednesday – No make-up, but we all have shoes on! Miracle! And we are all dressed, but we didn’t have to be anywhere until 6 PM.

Hmm...
Thursday – Well…My princess is adorable.

May 8 That morning went well. :)
Friday – That morning went well. 🙂
Saturday May 9
Saturday – Back to no shoes and no make up. Yes, the baby is still in pajamas.
Sunday May 10
Sunday – We only look this good because Dad is home to help on Sunday mornings. 🙂

Continuing with the ‘honesty’ theme, I feel a little ashamed at how often we leave our house without shoes on, or with kids still in pajamas. And I’m slightly appalled at the fact that I only had everyone dressed at the same time 3 out of 8 days (that’s a failing grade).

But I was pleasantly surprised at how often we are smiling. 🙂 That’s something.

Welcome to my real life. Honestly.

  1. Ha! That’s awesome. I keep a journal on my phone if things I’d be too embarrassed to post as a Facebook status but that I think in status form throughout the day. Also, I’ve started just keeping shoes for the kids in the car. Shoes are always the thing that tips me over!

  2. I absolutely love this! What a fun idea to photo-journal these things. Haha! You will love looking back on these. Make-up or not, you’re right – as long as you’re smiling, it’s a success!

  3. The smiles are the payoff!! Shoes are highly overrated!! YOU ARE GREAT AND WE LOVE YOU!!
